Estimates

Following an enquiry, artworks are usually delivered to the studio in Leyton for assessment, or a site visit can be arranged if desired. It is sometimes possible to give an indication of the procedures that may be beneficial, and likely associated costs, from images alone, and this would then be subject to observations made in person. Where possible it is helpful to discuss the artwork in person, allowing us to understand a client’s priorities and expectations.

Assessment

We carry out artwork assessments in person, and propose treatment where appropriate. Written documentation comprising the condition of the artwork, the proposed treatment, and a breakdown of procedures and costs is provided via email, along with accompanying overall and detail images of the artwork. Assessment and documentation is charged at our hourly rate, and PDF condition reports on headed paper are available upon request.

Treatment

Following approval to proceed with conservation treatment, treatment would ordinarily be undertaken at our studio in Leyton, however we are able to carry out certain projects on-site.

Once conservation treatment is completed, we produce a treatment record for your reference, outlining the techniques and materials used, and provide after-treatment images.

Cost

Our spent assessing, documenting and treating artworks is charged per quarter of an hour, at our hourly rate of £90 +VAT.

As a rough guide we find that treatment of individual artworks typically requires 4-6 hours.

Delivery and collection

We are not able to organise collection and delivery, but have a good working relationship with a number of couriers and are happy to give recommendations if needed.

Insurance

The Client accepts responsibility to insure in such sums and for such risks as the Client thinks fit. The Client acknowledges that no such insurance is carried by Foley Schalkx Conservation Ltd, nor shall Foley Schalkx Conservation Ltd be liable in the event of theft, loss, or damage. All activities undertaken by Foley Schalkx Conservation Ltd are subject to our terms and conditions, a copy of which is available on request.
